Same issue on pea protein: the 80-mesh nozzle screens were the choke point — switching to 60-mesh and adding a 15–20% recirc loop kept particles moving and clogs vanished. Keep the hopper jacket around 32–35°C and target 12–14% solids — a handheld NIR beats guessing on ‘moisture analysis’. Small caveat for compostable films, @RinaK: warmer fill temps can wrinkle them at speed, so validate at production rate.

On our whey isolate line, clogs disappeared when we jacket-heated the nozzle block to about 36°C and bled in 1–2 psi dry nitrogen at the hopper to keep fines from caking — @tommyJ_22’s screen tweak helps, but the heat + purge was the unlock; just watch nitrogen cost and leak points.

We killed protein-filler ‘rat-holing’ by adding a fluidizing cone and pulsing very dry air (<-30°C dew point) at 0.5–1 psi, 3s on/7s off — keeps the bed loose without blowing off mass; it’s like giving the hopper a gentle heartbeat. Building on @tommyJ, on pea-protein with compostable film we cut clogs by swapping the last 150 mm of the auger tube to UHMW and adding a 0.3 s reverse-jog every 20 s; it’s a <$100 mod and takes about 45 minutes. Small caveat: you’ll see about 0.5 g fill variance spikes until the checkweigher closes the loop.
